A new hotel in Bristol’s prestigious Harbourside, Europe’s largest mixed-use regeneration project, is benefiting from the excellent fire and thermal performance of Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board from Kingspan Insulation.
The 182 roomed Ibis Hotel, is the anchor occupier in Building 8 on the 16 acre flagship site. 4,500m2 of Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board was used to insulate the ceilings in the building, which also has ground floor accommodation for bars and cafes.
Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board is manufactured from premium performance rigid phenolic insulation and is designed for use under structural ceilings such as concrete soffits. The CFC/HCFC-free insulation utilises the thinnest possible insulation to achieve the required U-values, and is the most thermally efficient product commonly available, with a thermal conductivity as low as 0.021 W/m.K. The Kingspan Kooltherm® K-range is an extensive range of premium performance CFC/HCFC-free rigid phenolic insulants for roofs, walls and floors.
All of the products are lightweight and easy to handle and install. They are a popular choice with contractors as they do not produce loose dust or irritable fibres.
The Kingspan Kooltherm® K-range is manufactured to the highest standards under a quality control system (approved to BS EN ISO 9001: 2000), and has a Class O / Low Risk fire rating to the Building Regulations. Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board produces negligible smoke obscuration when tested to BS 5111: Part 1 - an important issue when designing public buildings.
Tim Westwood, Regional Business Development Manager with Kier Western, the contractors on Building 8, Harbourside agrees. He said: "We didn’t have a lot of headroom, so Kooltherm was ideal because it is so easy to handle and less bulky than some other insulation on the market. And it produces good results very quickly."
Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board can be fixed directly to a concrete soffit, a quick fix solution which produces significant savings in time and cost compared to other materials.
Bristol Harbourside is a flagship model for ‘green’ development. The environmental agenda has included use of harbour water for cooling purposes and solar power; and this strategy has extended to the choice of building materials.
Kingspan Insulation’s credentials as a manufacturer of environmentally friendly products is well established. The company was the first insulation manufacturer to complete and openly publish an independently (BRE) certified Ecoprofile on one of its product ranges. Kingspan Kooltherm® K10 Soffit Board is made from non-deleterious material, is CFC/HCFC-free and has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP).
