Premium performance rigid phenolic insulation from market leaders Kingspan Insulation was chosen for the new PFI Whitecross High School & Specialist Sports College, Hereford.
Building and Civil Engineering Contractor Stepnell Ltd is providing part of the funding for the school and has led the consortium. It was designed by Haverstock Associates LLP to provide a fully equipped 900-place secondary school and is the first high school to be built in the County since 1962.
The design of the school has reflected demanding requirements in respect of sustainability, indeed it is claimed in some quarters that it is the most sustainable school in the UK, and the building envelope has been designed with high levels of insulation.
M21 were the specialist installation contractors for the project and a total of 3,000 square metres of 90 mm thick Kingspan Kooltherm® K12 Framing Board was installed throughout four buildings which make up the main School & Sports Centre.
Alan Lyons, project manager for Stepnell Ltd said "It was imperative that only highly thermally efficient products were used on this project and the fact that Kingspan Kooltherm® K12 offered one of the thinnest insulation solutions without compromising these superior levels of thermal efficiency and U-values made it ideal."
Kingspan Kooltherm® K12 Framing Board is a CFC/HCFC-free, premium performance rigid phenolic insulation product designed specifically for timber and steel framing systems. As well as a thermal conductivity as low as 0.021 W/m.K, Kingspan Kooltherm® K12 Framing Board boasts negligible smoke obscuration and
