For more than 300 years the Royal Woolwich Arsenal played a vital part in Britain's glorious military past as an ordnance centre which manufactured the weapons and equipment needed to build an empire and defend the realm.
Now the historic landmark has been lovingly redeveloped by Berkeley Homes as the prestigious Royal Arsenal London housing development, which will enjoy an equally important 21st century role in the renaissance of this vibrant part of London.
The magnificent site has been restored to its former glory by a sympathetic conversion of the famous Woolwich Arsenal buildings into luxury apartments, together with new build apartments and town houses, which faithfully recreate the baroque architectural style of the original site.
A total of 20,000 square metres of premium and high performance partial fill cavity wall insulation by market leaders Kingspan insulation has been used on the exciting regeneration project which provides affordable Housing Association-run and privately owned homes that combine today's comforts with the elegance and heritage of centuries past.
Acorn Insulation Ltd, who provided Berkeley Homes with technical advice about all insulation issues, specified Kingspan Kooltherm K8 and Kingspan Thermawall TW50 zero ODP to meet the separate preferences of Berkeley Homes and the Southern Housing Group Ltd.
Richard Carver, of Acorn Insulation Ltd, said: "Both products were chosen because they deliver the superior levels of thermal efficiency and U-values which were required for a quality housing project of this nature."
Kingspan Thermawall TW50 zero ODP is a BBA Approved high performance rigid urethane insulation product. The boards achieve thermal conductivity of 0.023 W/m.K and is faced on both sides with a low emissivity composite foil which is highly resistant to the transmission of water vapour. This reflective, low emissivity surface effectively doubles the thermal resistance of the cavity.
Kingspan Kooltherm K8 is a premium performance phenolic insulation product with a thermal conductivity of 0.022 - 0.024 W/mK. As well as boasting a negligible smoke emission and Class O fire rating, Kingspan Kooltherm K8 is unaffected by air movement and is also resistant to the passage of water vapour.
